Once you’ve bivouacked with us, you’ll want to redefine temporary
Located on a hill called Phezulu, meaning “high point” — and it is indeed the highest point on our farm — our four luxury suites on beautifully decked platforms were each chosen for their incredible views and privacy. Each was lovingly chosen for its own particular distinguishing features and named accordingly. All were custom designed by the family that owns Bushveld Bivouac and are unique.
With every detail lovingly considered, our large, comfortable, 25m2 tents have free WIFI, king-size beds made up with glorious pure cotton linens, a ceiling fan and a dressing area complete with storage space and gorgeous custom-made gowns waiting to wrap you in indulgence and cosiness. Bathroom and swimming towels are provided. Each unit has its own private bathroom with walk in shower and magnificent live-edge vanity, own fully-equipped kitchen, plunge pool and fire pit or boma (braai grids and utensils provided).
All our units come with...
- Fully equipped kitchens (complete with coffee plungers for those who need their morning fix)
- Full-size upright fridge
- Complimentary fresh coffee, an assortment of teas, sugar, creamer and rusks.
- Built-in two-plate gas stove
- Fans
- Hot and cold running water
- Walk-in shower
- Plunge pool
- Boma or fire pit
- Braai utensils
- One complimentary bag of firewood is provided per booking along with a small pack of fire lighters
Complimentary fresh coffee, hot chocolate, an assortment of teas, sugar, creamer and rusks comes as a standard in every room, while freshly baked pastries and freshly squeezed orange juice can be delivered to your tents for an additional fee by prior arrangement.
All our units are ‘off the grid’, meaning you’re never at the mercy of loadshedding, but if you want to avoid causing your own private brand of loadshedding, please leave all hairdryers, irons, flat irons and power tools at home!
Each tent sleeps two, either in separate single beds or in a wonderfully decadent king-size. Children under 14 (no more than 2) can be accommodated on cute camp beds in their parents’ tents for a small additional charge.
Sites are a minimum of 100 m apart, and importantly, the relative locations of each dwelling and the intervening topography between them, ensure complete line-of-sight privacy, seclusion and silence. However, they are within close enough walking distance such that all four can be booked out concurrently by large groups, and either Dragon Rock or Lillie are perfect as a central gathering point in such cases. Although super secluded, each site is linked by a discreet, solar-lit path.
Views, views, views, unspoilt bush and beautiful amenities!
Wake up to the sound of a black-headed oriel or the call of a zebra and go to sleep at night to the cry of a fiery-necked night jar after a day of walking our well-indicated trails, cycling our gravel tracks, or simply soaking up the bush on a comfortable lounger next to your private plunge pool. Smell the unmistakable smell of the bush in the early morning. Experience sunsets like no other – in complete luxury and total privacy.
At one with the environment
All main and kitchen tent sides roll up (with insect gauze remaining in place for hot summer nights) so one can be in the bush without the restriction of ‘walls’, if one so chooses, but a with a roof for shelter from the wonderful summer rains.
When it comes to cooking up a storm
Our tented kitchens are fully equipped with a two-plate stove, full sized fridge and all utensils, crockery and cutlery. And, although we’re strictly self-catering, should you not feel like cooking, order one of our delicious pre-prepared meals to enjoy in the privacy of your site or a mouth-watering picnic basket or braai pack. If you’d like the convenience of arriving to a full fridge, we’ll be happy to shop on your behalf according to your wishes. Additional charges for these services apply.
Getting around
Apart from getting to and from your site, and movement of service vehicles, driving is not permitted on Bushveld Bivouac. The farm has an extensive network of walking trails and is ideal for mountain or e-biking. We will be happy to arrange drives on the property in our open game vehicle with pre-booking.
The world (well, our world) is your oyster
The reserve is 20 minutes from Hoedspruit, 40 minutes from Phalaborwa gate and just over an hour from Orpen gate, both of which are entrances into the Kruger National Park; and within easy access of a wide range of fascinating tourist activities including the Blyde River Canyon and God’s Window to name but a few.
